Permits and inspections around Redwood

Redwood is unincorporated, so Guadalupe County rules apply.

Our electrical contractor license (TECL #39622) is statewide. We file the permit, handle the utility paperwork and meet the inspector.

  • 01

Who issues electrical permits: Redwood is an unincorporated community in the northwest corner of Guadalupe County, just east of San Marcos, with no city government. The Guadalupe County Fire Marshal's Office Permitting Department in Seguin permits commercial and public buildings in unincorporated areas through its CityWorks online portal. Guadalupe County Environmental Health handles septic, floodplain and subdivision permits.

  • 02

How to apply: Apply through the Fire Marshal's portal with full plans. The county will not accept an incomplete submittal. Drawings must be sealed by a Texas architect or engineer and include a code analysis, site plan, and electrical load analysis, riser diagrams and ground and arc fault interrupter locations. Sites on septic need an on-site sewage facility permit from Environmental Health, and sites in a special flood hazard area need a floodplain development permit.

  • 03

Typical review time: Guadalupe County says it has a maximum of 30 days to review plans and issue or deny a permit; a signed time waiver can set a later date for complex projects.

  • 04

Inspections: Inspection requests go through the Fire Marshal's portal. A final inspection request form is required, and a Certificate of Compliance is issued after the final inspection.

  • 05

What to know locally: Redwood sits on the Guadalupe County side of the San Marcos area, so check whether an address is in unincorporated Guadalupe County or under a city before applying. Guadalupe County adopted the 2024 International Fire Code for unincorporated areas on January 27, 2026. The county lists no separate electrical permit.

Utility coordination: Not confirmed on an official page for Redwood. GVEC's service territory map shows Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative's territory at the Redwood town point. If the site is on Bluebonnet, the co-op inspects the meter loop at every new and existing location before connecting service, and each re-inspection costs $125. Bluebonnet's commercial developer package asks for CAD site plan files, load information, an information request form and a project schedule, and its cost estimates are good for 60 days.
