Who issues electrical permits: McDade is an unincorporated place in northern Bastrop County, so there is no city permit office. Bastrop County Development Services issues development permits through its MyGovernmentOnline permit system, in use since January 7, 2021.
- 02
How to apply: Commercial projects file a Non-Single Family Application for Development Permit. The county asks for proof of ownership, a survey or plat, a civil plan set stamped by a Texas professional engineer, a drainage report, and a letter from the local Emergency Services District before it issues the permit. A TxDOT permit is also needed for a driveway on a state road. The county does not list an electrical permit or contractor registration.
- 03
What to know locally: Bastrop County says it does not issue building permits or Certificates of Occupancy, and its building code covers only single-family homes and duplexes. The county also says it is not involved in inspections. Pre-development meetings are required only for lodging and RV park projects and are optional for other commercial work.
- 04
Utility coordination: Not confirmed on an official page. Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative lists Bastrop County in its service area and is based in Bastrop. Bluebonnet inspects the meter loop at every new and existing location before it connects service, and charges $125 for each re-inspection. Its commercial developer package says design cannot start until all required documents are received, and its sample schedule runs about 30 weeks from kickoff to energizing.
