Commercial ProjectsPermits and inspections in Flatonia
Our electrical contractor license (TECL #39622) is statewide. We file the permit, handle the utility paperwork and meet the inspector.
- 01
Who issues electrical permits: City of Flatonia, City Hall. Permit applications are posted on the city's Commercial and Residential Building Permits page, and the city has an online inspection request form. Bureau Veritas is listed as an inspection contact.
- 02
How to apply: All contractors must register with the city and be listed on the permit application; the registration form asks electrical contractors for a copy of their license. New construction needs a site plan, foundation plan, architectural plans, MEP plans and an energy report. Remodels need a scope of work, existing and proposed floor plans and MEP plans; if more than 50 percent of the original structure is replaced, the project is treated as new construction. Electrical repairs and solar installs that need no plan review can use the Single-Trades Repairs and Installs permit.
- 03
Inspections: The permit holder must request all inspections, and only after the application is stamped approved. Requests can be made with the city's online form, by calling City Hall, by calling Bureau Veritas, or by email to the city's code office. Electrical stages listed by the city are electric underground, electrical rough and electrical final.
- 04
What to know locally: The city says almost every project inside city limits needs a building permit, including all electrical work. General contractors do not need a license but must register with the city. Releasing temporary utilities does not authorize occupancy.
- 05
Utility coordination: City of Flatonia (city-owned electric system). The city's Utility Department builds and maintains Flatonia's electrical grid. Properties inside city limits must connect to city utilities, and all fees and deposits must be paid before any connection. Line extension and pole costs are set by the Utility Department, and the electrician should check with the department on where lines must run. Temporary or construction meters must be requested two weeks before the project start date, and temporary service may be cut off if it fails code inspections. Commercial deposits are set separately from residential ones.
- 06
Typical review time: Not published by the city.
