  • 01

Who issues electrical permits: Planning and Development Department; online through MyGovernmentOnline (MGO Connect)

  • 02

How to apply: Apply online in MyGovernmentOnline under Permits and Licensing (Building or MEP permits). All contractors and subcontractors must register with the city before a permit is issued: registration form, driver's license, state professional license for electrical contractors, liability insurance naming the city, a W-9 and a $50 fee (if applicable). Registration lasts one year and takes 1 to 3 business days.

  • 03

Inspections: Request inspections only through MyGovernmentOnline; phone or email requests are not processed. Requests made by 3:00 pm are scheduled the next day, and failed inspection fees must be paid before final inspections. Fire inspections are scheduled with Lake Travis Fire Rescue.

  • 04

What to know locally: Bee Cave lists the 2017 National Electrical Code and the 2015 International codes (fire code with local amendments) as its adopted codes.

  • 05

Utility coordination: Austin Energy; Pedernales Electric Cooperative (depends on location). Austin Energy requires an Electric Service Planning Application (ESPA) for new service and for changes to an existing service. A Meter Review is required before a meter is set for commercial new construction, remodels and service upgrades. PEC brings power to the site, sets the meter and energizes the service. The customer handles permits and inspections. Meter sockets must be UL listed and meet PEC specifications, and PEC will refuse service where a known hazard exists.

Typical review time: Not published by the city.
